How we’re supporting ex-military personnel through better housing and retraining opportunities

The energy transition will only succeed if we ensure we take everyone with us on the journey to a new energy world. That’s why we’re proud to support ex-military personnel – not only through more efficient housing, but also by providing retraining opportunities which can help them build new careers within the energy industry.

Our Green Funding Solutions team is installing energy efficiency measures in homes provided to military veterans as they transition to civilian life. As part of this initiative, we've also partnered with Building Heroes to support ex-military personnel in retraining as retrofit surveyors — helping them build new careers in the energy industry.

Retraining for a greener future

Transitioning from military to civilian life can be challenging, which is why our partnership with Building Heroes is so vital. In the featured video below, veterans Alex and Hendrik share their inspiring journeys — overcoming uncertainty, retraining with E.ON, Haig Housing and Building Heroes, and forming new careers in the green energy sector.

Their stories are a powerful reminder that a sustainable future must be inclusive, ensuring no one is left behind on the path to net zero:

By training as retrofit surveyors, colleagues like Alex and Hendrik are stepping into meaningful careers that directly contribute to tackling the climate crisis. It’s a powerful example of how E.ON is supporting personal transformation while accelerating the UK's journey to net zero at the same time.

We see the energy transition not just as a technological shift, but a social one — one that must include and uplift everyone along the way.

Supporting veterans beyond service

Energy should empower everyone. That’s why we’re proud to be working with Haig Housing, the UK’s oldest tri-service military housing charity, to help veterans settle into energy efficient homes that lower bills and reduce carbon emissions. These upgrades are a key part of our mission to make sustainable energy accessible and beneficial to all — regardless of background or circumstance.

Because as we move toward a low-carbon future, we’re determined that no one is left behind.

Powering positive change

These important initiatives are just one example of how E.ON is helping to create real change — through innovation, collaboration, and care for people and communities. From installing insulation and heat pumps to investing in training and support, we're focused on making sure that sustainability is not a privilege, but a shared opportunity.
