From grassroots sport to supermarkets, E.ON Control Solutions is helping make new energy work

This summer, E.ON and The FA will be upgrading grassroots clubs in England with sustainable energy solutions, and the programme will be drawing on expertise from E.ON Control Solutions, part of E.ON UK.

The E.ON Control Solutions (ECS) team is a leading UK provider of Building and Energy Management Systems (BEMS), and provides comprehensive services including system design, installation, data analysis, and ongoing maintenance to help clients achieve significant energy savings and reduce their carbon footprints.

Drawing on decades of experience, ECS has helped a wide variety of businesses and industries. Here are just a few examples:

Supermarkets

ECS has worked with leading supermarket chain Tesco for over 17 years to deliver large-scale, multi-site energy management across nearly 3,400 UK stores and petrol stations, supporting their strategy to achieve net zero by 2050.

Through our Energy Management Centre (EMC) we monitor their real-time energy use 24/7 to identify inefficiencies and implement remote fixes, enabling the business to achieve significant energy savings while maintaining a comfortable store environment and providing full visibility over their energy consumption.

In fact, in past years Tesco has achieved 50% of its annual energy reduction through remote connectivity initiatives and maintenance supported by ECS.

Hotels

ECS helped the Ritz London – one of the world’s best-known hotels – upgrade their old Building Management System controllers without any disruption to hotel operations.

The team collaborated with the hotel’s IT team to create a phased changeover plan and seamlessly migrate to the new system, helping them dramatically improve energy efficiency without compromising guests’ comfort even for a moment.

Museums

ECS supports the London Museum – a major heritage site and public institution – with comprehensive BEMS services under a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) regime.

The museum needed a single provider capable of managing both their existing and legacy systems, and now rely on the ECS team’s experienced engineers to deliver planned and reactive maintenance in close collaboration with the facilities management team.

As well as providing 24/7 emergency cover, ECS continues to support ongoing energy projects including system upgrades to provide long-term efficiencies and help the museum reduce costs.

Cities and Local government

ECS helped Southampton City Council move closer to its 2030 net zero target through a £1.7 million PSDS-funded project delivered with npower Business Solutions.

After auditing seven key buildings belonging to the council, the team implemented tailored upgrades including LED lighting, air source heat pumps, solar PV, BEMS improvements, and building fabric enhancements, which together are expected to save over 150 tonnes of CO₂ and £140,000 annually. The project’s success has laid a strong foundation for future decarbonisation efforts across Southampton City Council’s wider 140-building estate.

The team, tools, and experience to make new energy work

For decades now, ECS has been helping businesses in all kinds of industries reduce both their carbon emissions and energy bills while building unparalleled experience in all things BEMS.

Now, we’re even putting that experience to work beyond the world of business through the Greener Game. As part of this ongoing collaboration with the Football Association (The FA), E.ON Next and the ECS team are offering energy audits and support to Grassroots Football clubs across the country, helping them save money that can be reinvested in local communities through sport.

“At E.ON, we believe it’s on us to make new energy work, and that means working with our customers at home, in businesses, and within their communities to deliver real change as we strive to meet our nation’s net zero goals,” said Matt Brown, Managing Director of E.ON Control Solutions. “I’m proud of the wide range of clients our team helps every day, and especially excited that – by working with The FA to establish the Greener Game – we’ve created an opportunity to bring our industry-leading expertise straight to the hearts of communities across the country. It’s another fantastic example of how new energy really can work for everyone.”

Ultimately, we want to see the energy transition succeed, and whether it’s in service of domestic customers, businesses, or communities, we have the team, the tools, and the experience to help make new energy work.
