England Football legend visits Bingham Town FC
Bingham Town FC, located in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, was paid a surprise visit from Stuart Pearce, former England and Nottingham Forest footballer. The visit was organised by energy provider, E.ON Next, as part of its Greener Game initiative with The Football Association (The FA) to improve the sustainability credentials of grassroots football clubs.
Pearce, with 78 caps for the England Men’s Team and over 400 appearancesfor Nottingham Forest, shared his footballing advice with Bingham Town FC’s junior team ahead of their game against Calverton Miners Welfare FC. His advice included stressing the importance of training hard, with the ultimate goal of enjoying yourself and playing with a smile on your face.
In November of last year, Stuart Pearce helped launch the Greener Game programme at Shefford Sports Club - an England Football Accredited grassroots club, that is already seeing savings on their energy bills thanks to improvements to their facilities. These include the installation of solar PV and battery storage. At the launch, Pearce shared his own experience of the value of grassroots football and the importance of clubs to their respective regions and communities.
The visit was captured on video and is featured on E.ON UK’s and England Football’s social channels and an embed link is available here.
Scott Somerville, E.ON UK’s Director of External Affairs, added: "We’re delighted to be able to create such a special moment for everyone at the club. As part of our partnership with The FA we’re helping grassroots clubs reduce their bills by embracing new energy solutions. But it’s also about championing the brilliance of what our clubs give so many of us and ensuring that these vital community institutions can thrive long into the future. We hope Stuart’s surprise visit helped to do just that.”
