E.ON Next launches interactive Alexa audio feature to promote energy savings

  • Alexa users can opt in to receive reminders via device, making energy-saving easier than ever.
  • Activity highlights the benefits of E.ON Next’s new ‘Next Smart Saver’ tariff.

E.ON Next has launched an interactive audio activity on Amazon Alexa devices - designed to help customers take greater control of their energy usage and lower their bills.

Available on all Alexa-enabled devices, the audio advert explains the key features of E.ON Next’s new ‘Next Smart Saver’ tariff. Listeners are invited to receive a helpful Alexa reminder just before the tariff's off-peak period begins.

Customers can simply say, “Alexa, Remind me,” and Alexa will respond by setting a reminder on their device at the time when they could save on their energy with Next Smart Saver.

With Alexa devices designed for smarter home convenience, this interactive ad seamlessly aligns with E.ON Next's mission to simplify energy management and enable savings for customers.

Julian Lennertz, Chief Operating Officer at E.ON Next, said:

“This is an exciting moment in the rollout of the UK’s first mass-market Time of Use tariff.

“By launching an interactive audio feature with Amazon Alexa, we’re showing our commitment to engaging with customers in new and innovative ways. We want to help people understand how simple shifts in usage can lead to real savings.

“The Next Smart Saver tariff gives customers greater certainty around pricing and more control over how and when they use electricity.”

The Next Smart Saver tariff

Next Smart Saver is a 12-month fixed product featuring three time-based unit rates (all-inclusive of VAT):

  • Off-peak (5am–4pm and 7pm–2am): two lower-cost periods which are ideal for using your large appliances at 20.53 p/kWh.
  • Super off-peak (2am–5am): the cheapest rate, ideal for charging up those electronic devices at 16.41 p/kWh.
  • Peak (4pm–7pm): a higher-cost period reflecting national energy demand at 40.91 p/kWh.

Prices are valid at the time of publishing and subject to change. They are based on the national average and will vary by region. Customers must have a working smart meter and consent to sharing half-hourly data. T&Cs apply.

By encouraging customers to shift energy usage to lower-cost periods, the tariff helps reduce household bills while supporting a more balanced and efficient energy grid without compromising on convenience.

Next Smart Saver 12m fixed-term tariff offers off-peak electricity rates (5am-4pm, 7pm-2am) 20% cheaper than E.ON Next standard variable tariff, and super off-peak rates (2-5am) 7 days a week. T&Cs apply.
